Sign Language

Brendan and I have decided to start trying to teach Nathan sign language. Everything we have read seems to indicate that it helps babies to communicate with their parents MUCH earlier than they can verbalize their needs. So far, we have been working on "Mother" and "Father". After we have done those two consistently for a week or two, we are going to add "more".

I'm really excited about this and I'll keep you updated on our progress! Here are a few of the websites I have found:

A Free Baby Sign Language Dictionary

Signing With Your Baby

***UPDATE***

My aunt-in-law commented with this link! So cool! It even has short videos demonstrating the sign!

VERY Comprehensive Signing Dictionary

A Nestie suggested this one! It has videos, too, and a section for ASL for Babies!

Enjoy!

Also, tomorrow, I will be listing a variety of "Mom" shops of ladies that I talk to on the Nestbaby.com. Try and support their businesses! :)

Wonderful post on baby sign language. Can I please suggest that you start with the words "eat" "more" and "milk" before using Mom and Dad?

These first three signs are quite motivational for babies and it really helps them to make the connection to the sign.

After your little sweetheart gets a good two or three signs down, then introduce other signs. :-)

Also, I'd wait until your baby is about 6 months old first. If you begin too young, and he doesn't sign back 'immediately', it can cause some unwanted/unnecessary frustration for both/all of you. And babies shouldn't associate frustration with signing.

You got a lucky little sweetie there!

Good luck, and if you get a few signing photos, I'd love to post them on my baby signing site.

Looking forward to reading more about your baby sign language progress!
